We found out that 85% of our rubbish goes through the storm water drains and into the sea around New Zealand. The green turtles are swallowing or getting tangled up in plastic bags. The bags look like jellyfish and they try to eat them. The plastic gets stuck inside them and they usually die.
The green turtle has been around for over 100 million years. We need to be more careful about using plastic.
These are the questions we asked:
What do you do with your plastic rubbish?
Can we choose food that isn't wrapped in so much plastic?

We watched the documentary too, room 9. We were very upset about what is happening to the green turtles. Mrs Henare didn't even know there are turtles in New Zealand waters! Brooke was so concerned about the turtles that she picked up rubbish while year 6s were yachting, at Pandora Pond, last week. We made sure that no one from Porritt School left rubbish lying around because we don't want rubbish in our oceans, do we?
I watched that too. I think we should make a rule like Greenmedows school did. The rule is rubbish free lunch boxes
We have been talking alot about the green turtes and where and how we can help save the green turtles.
You can pick up rubbish.
You also need to make sure that your rubbish goes in the bin.
I have some questions for you
What would you do if you saw someone drop their rubbish?
Do know why people drop their rubbish?
If you put your rubbish in the gutter where would it go to?
Would you pick up some rubbish off the ground?
