Room 9's Base Camp

You might be wondering why Room 9 spent a day outside building a makeshift shelter from tarpaulins and poles!
We have been focusing on Sir Edmund Hillary for our Role Models Inquiry and we decided to make our own 'Base Camp', just as Sir Edmund did with his group of mountaineers at the base of Mount Everest.  We experienced much hotter conditions and the only thing icy were our iceblocks! We spent the day competing in groups, doing physical activity challenges like commando crawling under a tarp, running without stopping (everyone succeeded!), hula hooping and kicking soccer balls.  In the afternoon, we built our own mini tents using twigs and string.  We needed to problem solve for this one!

A big thank you to Mrs. Grant and Mrs. Morrell for lending us the equipment we needed.

Yes Room 09 I was wondering what you were up to out there on that day. Looks like you had fun. Did you know that one of the men who was with Sir Edmund Hillary when he conquered Everest was from Hastings and that he died last week. His name was George Lowe.
